"The Power of Humility in the Church of the Temple of God"
Philippians 2:3 – Bible Verse "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." (NIV)
Family in Christ, today we turn to a Bible verse that are simple to read and challenging to live: Philippians 2:3. In the Church of the Temple of God, we are called to be a light to the world but that light shines brightest when we live in humility.
Paul’s words to the Philippians were not just for them; they are for us today. In a world that celebrates self-promotion, God calls His people to a different way — a way of selflessness, service, and love. This is the path to spiritual growth and the key to unity in our church services and daily lives.
Reject Selfish Ambition
Paul begins with a warning: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit."
Selfish ambition is when our service becomes about us instead of God.
In the Church of the Temple of God, selfish ambition can divide ministries, create competition, and weaken our witness.
True ministry is not about being seen, but about making Christ seen.
Illustration: Imagine a choir where every singer tries to sing louder than the rest to be noticed. The harmony is lost. But when each voice blends in humility, the music becomes beautiful. The same is true in the church.
Embrace Humility
Paul says, "Rather, in humility value others above yourselves."
Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.
Jesus, the Son of God, washed His disciples’ feet the ultimate act of humility.
In church services, humility means being willing to serve in unseen roles, to listen more than we speak, and to honor others’ contributions.
Illustration: A pastor once said, “The most Christlike people in the church are often the ones you never see on stage the ones praying in the background, setting up chairs, or visiting the sick.” That’s humility in action.
Value Others Above Yourself
This is not just a nice idea it’s a command.
In the Church of the Temple of God, valuing others means celebrating their victories, carrying their burdens, and putting their needs before our own.
This attitude fuels spiritual growth because it reflects the heart of Christ.
When we live this way, our church services become more than gatherings they become encounters with God’s love.
Illustration: Think of a family meal where everyone makes sure the others are fed before they eat. That’s the picture Paul paints for the church a community where love serves first.
Life Application
Personally: Start each day by praying, “Lord, help me live Philippians 2:3 today.”
In the Church: During the next church service, find one way to quietly bless someone without seeking recognition.
In the Community: Let humility guide your interactions at work, in school, and in your neighborhood.
Conclusion
Beloved, the Church of the Temple of God is called to be a living testimony of Christ’s humility. When we reject selfish ambition, embrace humility, and value others above ourselves, we not only grow in faith we help others grow too. That’s spiritual growth in action.
Let’s make our church services a place where humility is not just preached but practiced, where love is not just spoken but shown.
Closing Prayer
"Lord, thank You for the truth of this Bible verse. Teach us to walk in humility as Jesus did. Remove selfish ambition from our hearts, and help us value others above ourselves. May the Church of the Temple of God be a place of unity, love, and spiritual growth. Let our church services reflect Your heart, and may our lives bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
