Setting Your Heart on Things Above: Living with Heavenly Perspective
In the fast-paced world we live in, it is incredibly easy for our minds to become consumed by temporary worries. From career demands and financial pressures to daily distractions, the earthly things competing for our attention seem endless.
Yet, as we begin a new week, God’s Word calls us to step back and re-anchor our thoughts in something far greater: His eternal kingdom.
In our latest Monday Blessing video on the Church of the Temple of God YouTube channel, we were reminded of the powerful command found in Colossians 3:2:
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." — Colossians 3:2 (KJV)
What Does It Mean to "Set Your Affection"?
To set your affection means to direct your desires, mind, and priorities intentionally. It isn't a passive passive state it is a daily choice to value God’s truth over earthly anxiety.
When we shift our focus from earthly troubles to heavenly promises:
Our anxieties lessen: Earthly problems lose their power when viewed in light of eternity.
Our priorities align: We begin to value love, faith, righteousness, and peace over worldly accomplishments.
Our faith deepens: Walking in obedience becomes a natural response to loving Christ.
Supporting Scriptures to Meditate On (KJV)
To help keep your mind centered on Christ throughout the week, hide these scriptures in your heart:
Colossians 3:1 (KJV):
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."
Matthew 6:33 (KJV):
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Philippians 4:8 (KJV):
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
A Prayer for Heavenly Focus
Heavenly Father,Help me to shift my gaze away from the temporary worries and distractions of this world. Fix my heart and mind on Your eternal promises. Give me the grace to seek Your kingdom first in all that I do, knowing that in Christ, my soul finds true peace and purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
