Taming the Tongue: Choosing Kindness in a World Full of Drama
Ever felt the sting of a quick screenshot, a rumor spreading through group chats, or harsh words spoken in the heat of a moment? In middle school and high school, drama can feel impossible to escape. Whether it's online comments, hallway gossip, or reacting without thinking, the words we use hold massive power. The world tells teens to clap back, hold grudges, or use words to tear others down to fit in.
But at Church of the Temple of God, we believe this teenage generation is called to speak life, truth, and peace over every situation.
Scripture Focus
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."
— Psalm 19:14 (KJV)
It only takes a second to type a comment or repeat a piece of gossip, but the impact can last a long time. Psalm 19:14 reminds us that God cares about what comes out of our mouths and what goes on in our hearts. True strength isn't winning an argument or having the sharpest comeback it's having the self-control to choose words that build people up instead of destroying them.
When you refuse to engage in drama, you stand out as a leader. At Church of the Temple of God, we are here to support you as you navigate teenage life, helping you shine God's love through your conversations, posts, and daily actions.
A Daily Prayer
Heavenly Father, guard my lips and my heart today. When I'm tempted to gossip, speak in anger, or join in on drama, give me the self-control to stay silent or speak words of kindness. Let the things I say online and in person honor You and encourage those around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
3 Steps for Teens This Week
Pause Before Posting: Before you send a message or comment, ask yourself if it is kind, true, and necessary.
Shut Down Gossip: When people around you start talking about someone behind their back, change the topic or walk away.
