We live in a world that tells us to get even. When someone cuts us off in traffic, wrongs us at work, or speaks carelessly behind our backs, our natural instinct is to push back. We want justice. Better yet, we want vindication.
But on a mountainside two thousand years ago, Jesus flipped the script of human nature on its head. He delivered a radical roadmap for life known as the Beatitudes, and nestled right in the heart of it is a promise that can completely transform your daily life.
In the King James Version, Matthew 5:7 reads:
"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."

The Paradox of Giving to Receive
At first glance, this verse looks like a simple transaction: if you are nice to people, they will be nice to you. But true, biblical mercy goes much deeper than standard human kindness.
Mercy isn't just about feeling sorry for someone; it’s a deliberate choice to withhold judgment and offer grace when the other person doesn't deserve it. It is love in action.
Think of mercy like a spiritual echo. What you send out into the world is exactly what bounces back to you. When we choose to extend a hand of forgiveness, empathy, or patience to those around us, we open the floodgates for God's incredible mercy to flow right back into our own lives.
What Does Mercy Look Like on a Tuesday?
It’s easy to talk about mercy in a church pew, but how do we live it out when life gets messy?
In Your Relationships: Choosing to drop an argument instead of needing to have the last word.
In Your Thoughts: Giving someone the benefit of the doubt when they fail you, remembering that everyone carries unseen burdens.
In Your Community: Reaching out to the lonely, the broken, and the forgotten with practical help, without judging how they got there.
Here at the Church of the Temple of God, we believe that every act of mercy—no matter how small—creates a ripple effect that reveals the very heart of Jesus to a hurting world.
Take the Next Step
You don't have to carry the heavy weight of bitterness or resentment anymore. True blessing, peace, and freedom are found when we let go of our right to get even and embrace the call to be merciful.
